Well, i have no idea where to post this.. but i thought this would be the general section of the idea. I was just wondering if anybody has a satellite in which they might have an idea on, of how to crack the password needed.
My problem is that, my dad kinda forgot the password, and now we cant change any settings. Obviously we aint gunna try 0000-9999 >.<
Any helpful tips? or any program u think might help? Thx alot guys. Appreciate it <3

Some satellite receivers I've worked on have batteries to store information like that(Just like the CMOS battery in PC's). I wouldn't open the receiver up unless your warranty has expired(and don't let the company know). Only do this if you know exactly what you are doing.
An idea came to mind about your situation if you can't fix it. I'm designing a "brute forcer" using a universal remote that will run through 0000 to 9999. All you do is you get the code that works with the receiver. Then you take the keypad off, and wire it to a micro controller and switch all the buttons with a permutation engine. I'm currently busy right now, but I'll let you know if I get mine working. I have experience before making a garage door opener version before This is much easier since you just need to switch known numerical codes which are just switches on the keypad.
Some receivers don't work with universal remotes, so you may have to order an extra one from the company.
Also, duh the KISS principle just call the company and tell them to reset it for you, they will most likely service it for free if not remotely.
EDIT: due to your ambiguity are you talking about a satellite TV receiver or a laptop
