Figured I would rewrite this better & include better examples of games, although a few on here are okay as is. I'm going to strip some gifs & come back to it, I did not continue with my examples so I think some new ones are due. Shows different games using unplayable content from characters, to vehicles, to objects, NPC weapons, also some noclip showcases.

Unplayable characters, their weapons, or vehicles have always been an interest of mine to control. Even objects for the amusement. I also wanted to explore out of bounds, which I now make my own noclip hacks & have been for the past eleven years. I learned a long time ago though no game is universal, & when you get down to the very nitty gritty of this? That's when it really starts getting extremely complex. How do you know if you have what it takes?

Well, you test the waters over the years & then come to a conclusion if you do or not. While there are some NPC hacks out there like Tekken, Dark Souls, Streets of Rage etc where you can find on the web their codes all in open glory, it won't help you for the next game. Why? You can't take these codes with you for one, two the next game you've not a clue how it works. Things won't be in the same spot, different functions, you get the idea. I've found it doesn't matter if it's the same engine or not, internally the code is going to be different.

The simplest I would say for this is select screen hacking, the basic ones at least, as these can get complex in coding. The basic ones are 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 etc in order, often times this has not been the case for me. & even if they are I've ran into basic ones that then turn very complex where you need to reprogram to even USE NPC related content. Another good example of how it's just impossible to find a universal way to control NPCs, I accepted that pretty early. Though I didn't want to. Reprogramming is also different per game. I'll go into tiers of easiest to hardest methods down below.

Remember this is not anything basic like health or ammo, do NOT go in thinking that if you decide to test the waters yourself what you can do. When I first did all this I made that mistake thinking it's simple. When you're doing it all yourself & there's no codes out there to help you the simplicity fades.

So it's like a book, blank pages. No hints. No nothing. To achieve NPC content varies each game, if you weren't a developer for the game working with the NPCs & player character? There are no leads, unless you check if there's codes online. Reminder that only a SMALL CHUNK of games have been NPC hacked. Not even a quarter. There are thousands & thousands of games. That number is only increasing.

These are the tiers:

File Editing - The simplest form of hacking NPCs. Though it can get tricky at times, it doesn't get anywhere near as frustrating, flexible, & complex as the next tiers can get.

Select Screen Hacking - A step up from file editing but still can be simple at times. However, from experienece this is often not going to be the case. At this point you're officially dealing with realtime memory, which while more flexible is also more prone to causing crashes, glitches, things like that.

Loader Hacking - A significant step up from select screen hacking, this hack can load whatever is in the loader list. So if the developers have NPCs in this loader list, even cut content, with the playable characters? They can possibly be loaded in. More flexible than select screen hacking, but there are limits too. Very complex to find, & it changes with an endless amount of other data changing with it. It is a loader after all. Your chances of crashes & glitches increase dramatically.

In-Game - This is the method that has absolutely no limits. However, it is also the most complex to do, being very extreme at that. One can change instantly to whatever & do whatever they want, control NPCs even. This is also where it starts becoming severely not universal per game, & where limits are tested what one can do. Crashes & glitches are at critical chances.

Promoting isn't allowed on here so no YouTube channel but, I did create one the start of 2025. If you find it, you'll know. I called out some rude stealing pretenders there not long ago who posted me trying to discredit & steal my work, passing it off as his own. I Included images of my old CE tutorial I stripped [same reason as well] logged in. So it has my profile on it. I was giving out NPC hacks often for free but that stopped after the drama.

Didn't get far really, kinda funny they realized how much they screwed up. I also had one try to blame me cause I took down CTs, data, & not releasing info for every game, as if I'm gonna keep letting myself be leeched off of. Some nerve. Anyways, what started my NPC hacking journey was with some games way back when I wanted to play as some enemies & traffic cars, but was not able to.This isn't anything but my experience on it. I can't really give a tutorial anyways, as it wouldn't help you for the next game at all.

Showing more, Timesplitters: Future Perfect being an example, a childhood favorite game of mine. Someone on here STOLE my pic & info on how to swap for that game on my old tut post "Creating Character Modifiers etc.", made a wiki page not crediting me for it. That's a part of why I removed ALL my tuts I was nice to give out, & refuse to do any more. It's game dependant anyways.

I was only 14 too so that tutorial wasn't refined, but it seemed like a brought up question with no exact answer so helping what I could based on experience is what I did. & it taking a LONG time to achieve, had no clue about memory really. I didn't really realize just how advanced games could get at the time.

That old tutorial is at 38K views. All important info is gone. Those that had work stolen understand & I'm sure those who haven't would too. It can ruin things for people.

Here's a swap glitch example in Driver 2, where the car model is unindentifiable until you hit something. Can be fixed but is complex.

Been busy, but back now. Got some more games!

Auto Destruct is another example of a game with traffic vehicles signifcantly lower in quality, pretty much static models that move. Now I did see where you can use a debug menu to actually use some of them however there's a lot they did not put in there.

Desert Tank, great game with a lot of unplayables. You only have one tank.

Finally Blue Forest Story I'll probably never finish, but I did make a NPC hack for it. Adds a bit of replay value to it, personally not into the game.

Took a break. So first starting off with Time Stalkers. I enjoyed the game, though my only complaint is I don't like the fact of having to start over every time in dungeons. Basically your level & some other things reset each visit, hacks can be used though to fix that. There's a lot of unplayable characters, & while you can command the monsters in battle you catch? You cannot actually control them out of battle. They also may not listen at times, so it's limited.

Auto Destruct is another example of a game that has significantly lower quality traffic vehicles to save on resources. There is actually a debug menu hack to use some of them however there's many that are not accessible through it.

Gran Turismo I'm swapping out my car with opponent cars, & Final Fantasy I'm one of the NPCs.

I think I'll throw a little section in here of games I've done noclip in, another fun cheat in my tables. I'm always interested in out of bounds for games, there can be tons of stuff out of sight, even if not it's just interesting to explore & enjoy. Sometimes scary or funny imo. To achieve it is almost on par with difficulty to swapping. It's not a teleport cheat though those can work to get past barriers, which is modifying coordinates nothing more. But out of bounds areas can have hardly any collision. Or at the very least unpredictable, some areas might be okay others no.

To solve this, is a fly hack. There's info out there on this, at least to lead you the right direction. Some games have flags that determine if your player or an object is on the ground, which is a fantastic workaround falling through out of bounds.

Showcases here are Timesplitters Future Perfect (Original Xbox, XEMU), Gran Turismo 3 (PS2, PCSX2), & Metropolis Street Racer (Sega Dreamcast, Redream). Perfect for exploration, big areas & stuff out of bounds you would've never seen originally. Also on my favorite level for TSFP, haunted mansion. Baseball bats, shotguns, flamethrowers revolvers, all at your need to kill some zombies ghosts & carrion worms

Happy New Year's & belated happy holidays. Been pretty busy with life stuff, but got some more showcases to drop. We've got PS2, Dreamcast & PSP. The hardest of these was most definitely Midnight Club, Grandia II & Arc the Lad.

Anyways, for Grandia II, you can see I cloned player character with an NPC. Disgaea & Arc the Lad Twilight of Spirits I'm swapping my character to NPCs complete with whatever animations they come with (guy sitting on air like it's a chair is pretty funny, the save game orb is interesting as well but like I said, you can swap to whatever is in a game.)

Also Disgaea AoD someone already made a swap, but it was for in battles, I found a forum on it through gameFAQs site. Makes sense because besides battles, you only play as one main character. Out of battle data is usually not paired with in battle. One playable = static data usually & that takes difficulty way higher. Anyways, I got some more showcases coming. There's so many games with so many cool unplayable cars & characters I can't cover them all on here.

I might just make a YouTube channel & do unplayable character & car showcasings. It's an interesting & brought up enough topic. Also going to go through & organize these posts, try to shorten things up as best as I can.
