Hi all,

Very new to trying my hand at CE. It's taken me a bit of trial-and-error but I'm slowly coming to grips with it when it comes to using it with RPCS3 (and subsequently trying to find cheats for Silent Hill Downpour).

However, I have encountered a problem with its tutorial: in Step #6, the very last paragraph is very confusing and makes no sense to me. It's where it says "Now, change the value using the pointer you added in 5000 and freeze it."

I don't see any option for "Freeze", nor does it tell me how to do that in the tutorial. Also, the part that says "change the value using the point you added in 5000". Huh? Is it supposed to mean, "change the value using the pointer you added in during Step [x]"? Because I don't know which "5000" it's referring to as that's what was done in Step 3 and 4.

if I could get some clarity on this, that would be great as it seems trying to tackle "Infinite Health" in Silent Hill Downpour requires understanding this step (and Step 5) since the health addresses always change upon loading a save, I've found.

Not everyone knows English well enough to communicate without errors. That sentence basically says "Using the pointer path you added in, change the value to 5000."

"Freeze" is a legacy detail. The first column of the address list (bottom half of main window) used to be captioned as "Freeze" years ago IIRC.

Look at a walkthrough of the tutorial online if you want more details about the CE tutorial. e.g. from Dark Byte:

It's more common nowadays to use code injection to get an address. Search for "injection copy" for more information.

All of the above points might be moot, as emulated software is in general more difficult to target compared to native software. Pointer paths might have a node with a ridiculously large offset, and code injection might not be feasible especially if the emulator uses more direct bytecode interpretation instead of JIT compilation.
It would be better to use something designed to target the emulated platform- e.g. gameshark codes for older consoles, or features the emulator provides for cheating in games.

There are a minimal amount of users that actually use the provided tutorial; however, I can understand your confusion. Within Cheat Engine freeze is synonymous with activate i.e.: checking the box of the entry.

. It's as ParkourPenguin says, in older versions of Cheat Engine (before scripting) it was called freeze because that's what happened to the value when you activated the entry.
