Cheat Engine

Hi!

After installing Cheat Engine my PC slowed down
it's especially noticeable when web browsers open a window to open/upload files.

I uninstalled it but opening those windows still takes more than 10 sec.
They opened immediately before :(

I'm 99% sure it coccured.
(I used it for cyberpunk 2077 if that makes any difference)

What can I do?
Clean the registry?
Anything else?

Did anybody else notice it?

Double check your installed programs list and see if there is anything you accidentally installed with CE. CE comes in a bundler installer that gives optional install recommendations as a form of ad-revenue for Dark Byte.

In most cases, people don't read things and just spam click through the installer and agree to various things being installed. The most common things recommended are browser extensions/bars, anti-virus software, and other similar types of software.

likely an anti-virus or toolbar. You should be able to remove it with the software uninstall panel in windows. But in case it's not an anti-virus/toolbar or windows defender:


Did you at any time resort to using the reset button or power button down for longer than 5 seconds ?
Some mainboards are configured to enter 'safe mode' on an unsuccessful run which causes it to underclock the cpu. Try restarting windows and shutdown as well


and there's always the chance that because CE causes the CPU to use more power than your average benchmark it caused the CPU to trigger a heat protection causing it to underclock. Try waiting a bit (perhaps shut down and wait a bit here as well. And while waiting check your case for dust)

And have you recently updated windows? (around the same time as you installed CE?) Some of these updates will really slow your system down
