|

Hello, I got to say I have been using CE for a decade now, however for basic tasks only. My brother recently made me follow a tutorial to hack him some Android game which at some points instructed me to enable that DBVM (the program says my machine supports the use of such dbvm) in CE but nonetheless it refused to load because of some incompatibility with some drivers or something like that.
I gave up but unpleasantly found out that such attempt - although I did not actually do anything beside acknowledging that I wasn’t able to use that cheat - made my computer suffer a HUGE drop on performance in basically all other games (not a gaming laptop but previous 60 FPS dropped to 20-25 at best). How do I undo whatever had been done to my machine? I searched for similar threads but I did reboot/sleep without any success. I also tried uninstalling CE and reinstalling it with fresh settings (6.4 version).
What can I do?

When I run successfully, the performance will decrease and the mouse will freeze

restart windows
Also, your anti virus might be freaking out which is what actually is slowing you down

I have been restarting/rebooting several times, but something seems to be still messing up.
I don’t use external antivirus, just windows Defender. Do I have to put something as exception? Also, I read your post somewhere about conflict with other emulators; I have been using it with Bluestacks specifically, might it be the cause? I already got rid of it though

You don't need DBVM for emulators, I don't know why people keep saying that.
Have you tried turning your system of for an hour to let it cool down? Tried cleaning the exhaust ports ? (Could be that because the CPU had to actually work hard the fans had to spin harder, which sucked in more dust, finally bringing it to the point where it's clogged)
And check taskmanager details tab. See if there is a process with cpu usage that's particulary high(90%+ or so). If it's the interrupt system process, it's likely a hardware issue
Oh, and do check the "performance" tab in taskmanager as well. Does it get to the maximum speed under load? I have one mainboard where if you force shutdown, it will run at lowest possible speed next time you turn it on. Only a normal reboot will make it go normal speed

thank you for your reply, I dont have high usage from interrupt system process. Idle system process stays at 80~ usage which should be decent afaik. I have tried launching one game (Paladins) and cpu usage peaks and stays at 100% throughout all the loading, it's freezing all my other windows including chrome which only unfroze when I forced the game down. It had been cooling down for the entire night, I will check for excess dust later in the afternoon.
Are you actually sure that what I did earlier (trying to start DBVM without success) couldn't have left some background action that persists after reboot?

Technically there is no reason why it would affect your speed. If it didn't even fully start it's about as effective as showing a popup screen
What you can check in settings is if "Core isolation" is not turned on, as that can cause a slowdown as well
But what I mentioned in the performance tab of taskmanager, is the GHz indicator at it's max according to the specs of the CPU your system uses ?
See if you can check cpu temperatures with a program

cpu temp seems to range from 46 to 53 degrees (used Speccy to detect it), it's operating at 2.29ghz (from windows task manager) and as read from manufactor info it could run up to 2.6ghz. I disassembled half the laptop earlier today and did a deep dust removal especially from the fan.
Where do I find that "Core isolation" setting? Having hard time right now

@Dark Byte I managed to backup to a previous state (Sept 26th) and it seems to work as fine as before this trouble - I now launched the same game without having other windows to freeze, idle system process now seems to operate regularly (40-50% cpu free). FPS also went back to normal.
If this can be of any help for future releases/fixes I think trying to activate DBVM leaves some cpu draining activities hooked in the background even if the specs do not allow the DBVM to actually start running.
Thank you for your assistance!
