How do I cheat?

Hello everyone this is my first post and I don't really know where to post it so here it goes. Anyways I got a trainer that is in .exe format and I'am not sure that it is made with Cheat engine, is there a way to figure it out in which program it's made, and could I somehow open it with cheat engine. The game name is Arsenal Extended power and I have got a trainer that works with specific version, but does not work with newest one, so what I wanna do is somehow make the trainer that works with newest one, and the easiest way would be to use old variables just to update it somehow. Be note that I'am not very good with cheat engine.. I don't really know how to use it, if anybody can help that would be great, and thanks in advance.
