How do I cheat?

Hey everyone,
So I'm very new to using cheat engine, and I can do the super basic stuff like finding addresses for things like HP or Gold in a game and then changing the value of it. I can find the value of something and freeze it, but it doesn't remain frozen. Visually, for example, gold will change to show 99999, but then i cant spend it, and when i pick up additional gold it reverts back to 10 or whatever number it was before. The same is true for things like attack damage, hp, i cant seem to change it in a way that affects the game. Is this due to me not understanding the advanced options like "find out what writes to this address" and other features? What do I need to do to change these values?
Also, alternatively if anyone has experience using cheat engine, I'd be willing to pay if you can help me change values of things. Pm me and let me know

not really, but most important things (the cheaters want) are server-sided.
however some rare games allow private/custom match to be playable offline *read me, if thats the case with you then you can cheat.
but keep in-mind many games do encrypt or mask the values, some may check previous value with current and gained amount or whatever.
* some also allow peer-to-peer or local-network players, and you can cheat on these as well. (but remember forum rules against online/multiplayer game hacking)
