I'm new to CE, and am having trouble understanding what time period the "previous" column refers to.

Let's say I do a New Scan for "100", and found a bunch of matches.
Now I do a Next Scan for "99", and it lists a bunch as well, but in many of those listed the *previous* value is listed as "99" as well!!
Shouldn't those all be "100"??? Because that's what my previous search was for?
Or what does the "previous" refer to? Game cycles?

I understood the Next Scans to be a search within a search result (i.e. the output of the New Scan). Is my understanding totally off here, or what am I doing wrong?

The "Value" column shows what the value currently is. This might not be what you searched for if the game changes it. The "Previous" column shows what the value was when you last searched for it. It's not that useful for an exact value search, but it is useful for other types of scans such as increased/decreased and changed/unchanged.

And that's the part that confuses me...
Because, if my last search was for "100" then why doesn't that column always contain "100" as the previous value?

It will. Take Step 2 of the CE tutorial as an example:
  1. First scan for 100.
  2. In the previous scan, everything was 100, so the previous values of every record should be 100.
  3. Click "Hit me"; health is now 96.
  4. All the previous values should still be 100 because that's what the previous scan turned up. One number in the "Value" column should have changed to 96.
  5. Next scan for 96.
  6. In the previous scan, everything was 96, so the previous values of every record should be 96.

You might be thinking of the scan before the previous scan.

Yeah, that works in some games, but in others the "Previous" column changes for some reason.

Look at the video below, where, after entering a new search value for the "Next Scan", the values in the "Previous" column all contain the new search value after I submit the search (even though before they are listed correctly as 100 & 117): youtu.be/wFEEbG-gVv0
(sorry, can't post real URLs yet)

That video shows the exact behaviour I described. The values in the previous column changed to 117 because that's what the values were in the scan you just performed (i.e. the previous scan).

Your first post also has the same misunderstanding:

No. Your previous scan was for 99, so that's what should show up in the "Previous" column. The values under the "Value" column are what the values currently are and may or may not still be 99.

I still think you're confusing the previous scan with the scan before the previous scan.

Yeah, I guess I was looking for the "pre-previous" value, and that's where I got confused...

But thanks anyway for explaining it patiently! Wink
