|
|
So I've been using CE for several years now and only once had a Scan Access Violation - which I fixed by changing the CPU affinity of CE.
This time, whenever I try to scan the memory of DragonQuest XI, I almost instantly (after ~30 scanned addresses) get the dreaded "Scan error:thread 3:Access violation (100)" error.
What I tried so far:
- Change cpu affinity of CE
I've tried every (!!) combination with my 4 cores and some netted me more scanned addresses before the same error (with another thread-number) came up.
- Made sure it's process-specific
In order to make sure this wasn't a general problem, I've tried to scan the memory of other processes, and it turned out fine
- Disabled Extra-Options
- Changed Tmp-Folder
I even made sure no AV was protecting or any other process interfering with the folder
Any help (or instructions that leads to help) is sincerely appreciated.

Did you try changing the CE debugger settings?

oh yeah, totally forgot to meantion that, I also tried to change the debugger between the windows native and CE one, but that didn't net any changes in my problems.
I'm not gonna touch the kernel-debugger though, never needed it, probably never will.

something in your system likely has a hook on readprocessmemory and it's badly implemented (no thread support)
try uninstalling all av's and other protectors and reboot to make sure their system hooks are gone

I just uninstalled my AV and rebooted (I don't have any other protectors).
Problem prevails.
I guess I need to meantion that I'm using a cracked version of the game.
The original (but apparently nuked) crack didn't cause any problems, I could scan the memory and do all sorts of things.
When the crackfix appeared and I applied it to my local files, this problem started cropping up.
In between applying the crackfix and using CE with the original crack, I didn't install any new applications, nor did I change anything within my system.
So, does it stand to reason that it is a problem with the game's binary?
I've just tested that I can successfully scan the memory when I activate the Extra-Options, but I'm not able to find the correct addresses, as if CE is not scanning the correct process... I know this because I'm rescanning values I already successfully found through "what other addresses does this instruction..."

try just kernelmode read write but not query memory regions
kernelmode query will only find memory actively in RAM

Yea, using kernemode r/w enables me to read the process' memory, but it won't find the addresses I'm searching for.
I'm searching for values for which I have the actual addresses in my table, but it won't even find those...
It's as if CE isn't reading all the mem pages of the process.
This, for some reason, shows when I change the scan buffer, as more or less addresses are found until the scan error occurs. Changing the affinity sometimes also net more addresses found until the error shows.
So in order to check if it really was a problem stemming from the binary files, I reverted them back to their state when I could use CE and... the problem still prevails, uh.
So after all, it isn't a problem caused by the binary files but something else.
It isn't caused by the AV.
It isn't caused by a lack of permissions.
This only occurs with this particular game, any other game is fine.
What can I further do to help you to help me?

are you using 6.8?
if so then uninstall it (you might need a reboot), then download 6.8.1

I'am using indeed 6.8.1.
Still stumped why this is only happening with this particular game.

Just installed 6.7 and have the same problem, can't scan the memory.
Even installed older versions and got the same results.
Meanwhile, to ascertain once more that this problem only occurs with this game, I tried to load up several other games on my disc and scan their memory - without any problems.
I could - of course - download tables of others and use them, but where's the fun in that? I'd as well just download a trainer from any other site and not use CE at all. That's not how I roll, as I want to challenge myself creating my own cheats.
@Dark Byte
Is it even possible that CE shows this behavior for certain games?
Have you ever had or read problems with CE pertaining to specific games before?

without seeing it i can't really say.(access violations are usually system hooks)
How much RAM does your system have ?

I've got 16GB installed. The Page-File is (max) 16GB as well.
Is it possible to check which processes are currently hooked into kernel read/write? I know it can't be the AV as I've uninstalled it before, but if what you say is true, something else could be triggering the errors.
But why only when I try to scan the memory of this particular game? Is it because of its way of allocating mem pages or smth similar?

click help while holding down control key, then enable logging and check cedebug.log for stacktrace.

Funny... same game another Access Violation...
What means Access Violation 299 ?
I've made a table and everything for the game, but now,
searching for changed / unchanged values gives Access Violation 299...
Any ideas ?
