I'm trying to cheat/break stuff in a game called Factorio. I want to get some pointers however I seem to have this weird issue in this game only.

Trying to scan for pointers or loading any table that has a pointer in it will cause a massive surge in CPU usage from CE :

Furthermore, closing the CE window won't actually stop the process, it will remain in the background eating CPU time

What could this be related to and how do I fix it?

you have a quad core cpu ? (or dual core with hyperthreading?)

can you do normal scans or do you get file errors?

have you tried to reboot ?

It's a i5-750m, 4 cores.

Normal scans work, no errors and no previous mentioned CPU problems, it's once I add scripts/pointers that I get this issue.

And yes, it's a issue that happens for a few days already and I shut down the PC fully when I'm not using it.

could be you have an anti virus that's protecting you from CE deleting the temp files. (that's the last thing it does when you close it and it looks like it's stuck there)

Try setting the scan folder to a different location in settings->scan settings

I tried that but it didn't do anything.

Since this was the first time I launch the game/CE this boot I started the game, attached CE, did a few normal scans and edits, nothing unusual happened. CE was at ~110MB RAM usage and 0-5%. Then I opened a saved table that contained 10 pointers, ran around for around 15 seconds and when I checked again CE was at 450MB and 25% CPU usage.

Closing, reopening and reattaching now causes CE to instantly jump at 25% the moment I attach it to Factorio even if I restart the game (I tried opening another RAM heavy game between game restarts, issue was still there).

I guess I'd have to reboot and even then once I do anything pointer related I'll get this issue.
