is there a way to find out what item IDs are in a game, let's say i'm playing the first Mass Effect game, and i start with the basic armor, but i want to have the best armor in the game, is there a way i can find out what the item IDs are?

you can try finding something related to the armor and then dissect data structure and see if you can find the ID for the armor somewhere near by.

Can you switch armors?
Otherwise search for some stats that are dependent on the armor. If it works via IDs there will probably be some function call/s that gets the stats using the specified ID and sets them accordingly.
