Somebody bought me Minecraft a couple of months back. Now I wanted to host my own server but I'm not sure how I could best do this. I first started using Server.pro but noticed that 0,5 GB really isn't nearly enough.
Anyone have any tips? What do/did you guys use? |

hosting a private server for game is "so fucken tiring, weary and cost a lot"
it usually requires a group of fat rich fucks to do so
you need a good hosting server which will cost you more every time players increase
you need someone who have experience editing the game and such
the last thing, No one will play your newbie 2 days old game
i'm sharing you my experience doing the same thing with silkroad online
idk about this kiddie "minecraft" game _________________

i used to host a minecraft server with my buddy, our post on the mcforum got a couple hundred posts. it was fun while it lasted, but after a couple months buddy didnt want to continue paying for the hosting so we stopped
I think you're gonna want 2 gigs or more if youre actually gonna have a good amount of people on, and doing shit.. or if you want more maps and plugins and shit that will start to lag the server too. if you dont want to pay for hosting you could always port forward and just keep your own computer running all day and night.
make sure to make me admin when you make the server tho, my ign is coincidentally Nirojan _________________

idk about this kiddie "minecraft" game | nope, i can host anything under 2$, a 150 slow server is doable with 12$ with pure dedicated hardware, hosting 30 people with flawless performance under 2$ is ez pz, but that's vanilla mc, you don't need more than 512mb ram even with mods if you're hosting 3-5 clients _________________

Oh, I should have clarified that I'm not planning to host a server for people I don't know. It's just for me and some friends to play on, like 5 people at the same time at most.
The reason I think 0,5 GB isn't enough is that the control panel features a percentage bar. After playing for a couple of days it was filled up to around 25%. So then I tried rowing around in a boat for a couple of minutes and when I looked back at it, it was almost at 90%. Not exactly sure what this signifies though? But I figured if I was going to play for a longer period of time it wouldn't be enough. |

RAM usage means nothing. It's just some buffering so when you go back to that region it won't have to load the chunks from the disk, so faster.
Only when the game crashes because it can't allocate memory it's bad. (Do check the swap, make sure it's not constantly used)
Also, the nr1 cause for lag in minecraft is world generation. On new servers it will always lag because people are exploring and causing the server to generate new chunks. _________________

Oh, that makes sense, thanks.
Think I'm just gonna take paupav's advice and hook up an old computer to my modem. |
