How do I cheat?

Hello to all. I have been using Cheat Engine for a while on some flashy games and it works pretty nice! So, now I tried to use it on a MMO game and here I need some light to guide me, because, here is the problem: I run the CE, then I run the game and I start to scan. Everything going OK, I find the value, I change it to what I want and I get the amount, but, here is the tricky part: When I go to the shop in the game and when I try to buy something, the value changes immediately when I open the shop window, so I cannot buy stuffs, but in my inventory the amount stays the same. That is where I need help, I mean, if there is a way to bypass that security or whatever that is, if you want to tell me or give me a direction on what to do next. I would appreciate any help.

in an mmo game, there are variables stored in your memory which may be edited and variables stored on the server which many not be edited.
money is typically one of those variables that is stored in server memory. You will never be allowed to edit it.

Then how the kids are doing it with a packet sniffer?

a packet sniffer will allow someone to read incoming and outgoing packets between the computer and the server.
If the packets are unencrypted, or if they figure out the encryption and decrypt them, then the packets can be viewed/edited.
If you find the appropriate packet that is checked, such as a sell item that isnt verified by the server, then you could sell items and make gold for items you didnt have, but if server checks then you cant.
Just another way of cheating that comes with its own risks/rewards.

| How can I know what packets are not verified by the server? How can I do what you are saying? I found a packet sniffer and I'm getting some results, but the shit looks pretty encrypted. So what next? Do you have any past experience with this?

Google is your friend here, as you are delving into a complex, but rewarding, field.

Its probably encrypted, find the function in the game the encrypts it and work from there. Easiest way to do this is to use the chat feature. Send a message with "1", "2", "3", set breakpoints hit send, trace it through memory until it gets encrypted, see if this function encrypts everything or just chat, etc.
It it complicated and will take time. Google around for better examples and tutorials.

You need to learn first, which packet contains what you want. To do this for item selling, go to the cheapest npc around buy a handful of items from him with many duplicates.
Let the game run capture those packets, set them all to be filtered out as non-important.
Sell an item, see how many new packets their are.
Sell the same item again, did a packet come out exactly the same as the previous? One packet, two packets, a batch of packets?
Once you have narrowed it down, sell 10 of the item at once (if you can sell more than 1 at a time), what changed in your packets you narrowed to be the item sell packets?
Sell a new item, what changed?
You now know two fields of the packet, the "what" and the "amount"
Sell from a new npc, what changed? You now know the "whom"
Send the packet or the packet group without an item in your inventory, do it a few more times, see if your gold changed.
This type of cheating will get you banned in most games. If someone told you they successfully did it before then you might be fine, they might be lying, or both of you may be queued for a banning in the future.
You can do this for just about any action in game, monster death, deal damage, cast spell, etc

| I guess I will have to learn ALOT because that is more complicated than I thought it would be, but, thank you for your advices and pointing out where to start and experiment. I will try and if I succeed, I will post any results here.
