If you haven't met hirens boot CD then you should, it is recommended to use it if your PC is in highly risk (Eg. can't go in the computer, explorer.exe was modified by a virus)

Requirments:

*Your Windows XP CD

*Hirens Boot CD 9.3

---------------

allright, after you've downloaded the boot cd, use Nero to burn it as an Image.

after you've done burning it on a CD, insert it and reboot your PC.

you'll hit a black screen like:

*Start from Hard disk //This means to start from the data it contains in the hard drive, the OS

*Start Boot CD //you'll need to choose this

after you're in the boot CD, click 1 + enter (twice, lol i remember it blind)

then, it'll load for you Partition Magic pro 8.5

Note:if it'll ask you to load drivers for hardware, just load the first .sys ones and the rest = no)

allright, now you're in the partition magic pro, choose your label you want to format, click "Format", enter Ok at the buttom, enter the new Label (Eg. C) and uncheck surface test.

after that, apply and walla ! 1min formatting, quickly huh ?

now go back to the main menu and type "reboot" //it'll restart your pc

now if you're quickly (because some miss it, i don't since i've formatted my PC 900 times) when you reboot quickly insert Windows XP CD (cause my pc is fast).

if you're not quick, when it reboot go into BIOS (by Pressing DEL) and eject the CD-Rom and insert Windows XP cd.

now, while rebooting with your OS disk inside, you'll see a black screen with "Please press any key to boot from cd. ." just click spacebar or enter.

you'll now hit a blue screen (not BSOD lol) loading all of the components, after it finishes loading click Enter (Install) and then wait for it to load all the .ini's configuration files, then press F8 to "Accept" the TOS (Terms Of Service), then choose your formatted label, and click enter to install.

you'll take place with the following settings:

format the computer <quick> //skips surface test

format the computer //Full

leave it with no changes //will skip formatting since we allready did and start installing Windows XP aheade.

now Windows XP will copy all the files that will be needed and will force you to reboot after, once you've rebooted don't touch any keys until you'll hit the "Please insert your validate activation code".

Heh, just a few days ago I got a pop-up from KAV saying my explorer.exe had been modified, later that night the HD turned itself off and became partially corrupted. All fixed, multi HDs FTW.

This section needs one big thread (for a sticky) with links to things and etc.
