I might get an Alienware M17x and it says it is 3D compatible however it is around 1,500$. I'm wondering if the 3D is actually worth the 1,500$. If it isn't, I'll probably look into getting the Alienware M14x.

No. Youd have to download 3d compatible games / movies to even really use the feature, and even then using it too often will probably give you headaches.

If the game is on here then it supports 3d vision. The only game I know of thats missing is Sonic Generations. Unless you really think you want 3d vision, its not worth it. And if you are willing to spend that much on a laptop for gaming you should really get a desktop.

Ask yourself how often you will play video games on a pc outside your house? Even lan parties all bring a desktop.
