Hey guys,

Been a while since I've been here and this is the only place I decided that I could come after a few hours spent Googling for possible solutions.

So I own a Asus 1005PE Netbook.

Since I recently bought another laptop with a bit more guts to run multiple programs like One Note and Visual Studio 2010 at the same time. I thought I might go about upgrading the BIOS on my trusty little netbook.

I downloaded the BIOS upgrade files. Flashes then by hitting ALT + 2.

It told be that the BIOS upgrade was successful.

Now however. Whenever I try to load Windows7 it gets to the windows 7 styled loading status bar then a BSOD and black screen and the netbook resets.

I tried installing another OS but with no avail. I'll try a live CD in the morning but thought you guys might be able to provide me with other possible solutions.

Thanks again!

Load optimized defaults and try to boot again.

I'm assuming you mean the BIOS default settings? Tried that. Same thing happened.

Unless you refer to something different? All I did was load the BIOS menu and selected restore to default. Is that the correct thing?

(I'll Google what you wrote now)

thanks for the swift reply!

There should be 2 options in the bios.

1. Optimized defaults

2. Fail safe

The problem you seem to be experiencing is windows disliking the change in the bios. If all else you may need to reformat.

Try switching the ide/sata controller state. If windows was installed with ahci enabled it will not boot up if it's set to something else

Found the solution online. Turned one I had to change the sata state from
'Enhanced' to 'Compatible'

No-one really knows what the setting is for exactly but it solved the problem and now my netbook works perfectly. Perhaps the bios upgrade set that option as a default for some reason... anyway thanks for the support guys!
