I have no problem pulling svn and compiling it, but I wanted to talk to you about Somoto, in public, because I was wondering if those of us who think Somoto's business practices are slightly-less-than-ethical, that you could provide a clean version for donators? Since it's open source there's no reason any of us couldn't do it, but I'd feel like a scumbag redistributing your hard work...

You have phear working on your side, in that I don't think those versions would be passed around, since people are (rightly so!) worried about getting a trojan'd version from teh webz.

I know why Somoto exists, and I'm sure for that poor developer that got so depressed when he found out 95% of his users are using pirated copies, that Somoto provides a way that he might make a few dollars off his work, although I'm of the mindset that if the coder just engages his user base, he'll get them to not only happily pay for it, but defend it themselves from pirate trading. Just my opinion, I know...

Anyway, thanks again. You've been at this so long already, but here's hoping you stay interested until CE 10 and beyond. <3

There are actually 3 versions of ce on download on this site
1: The somoto installer, which has a 19% of showing as the download , also, this is a 'special' version where the skip button explicitly skips the offer (didn't like those tricks into accidentally installing stuff either)

2: The openCandy one, which as a 81% chance of showing as the download. And also offers better tools like actual useful apps

3: The installer less version. I provide a secondary link in the download page to a installer free version where you can just extract it and go. Just make sure you run the registry reset program first to make sure no older ce version is interfering

(and it's recommended to bind .cetrainer extensions to the ce exe)


And while I could sell CE it would cause a lot of extra work(country specific selling, regulations, etc...), a lot of people wouldn't be able to use it (a big amount of ce users are aged 11 to 15 and most of them aren't allowed to do online payments yet), and if I would provide a paid version, there would always be those that think that because they paid for it, it would work in online games and then get pissed of and demand a refund when they find out it won't work

So for now these toolbars are what make me work on ce.

Ahh that's excellent. I'm relieved to see that you put a lot of thought into it already. Apologies, I should have known.

OAN I hope your day job is coding, because in reading through your code, you approach problems in a way that is clever, efficient, and appears effortless, like this is just how your brain works. [[this coming from someone who two years into a CS Masters, wanted to hunt down Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie and beat them to death with a mousepad.]]
