The 40 seconds is an estimate, but for example I start a youtube video it starts, then I open a new tab and go to a forum for example then it will shut off immediately. it is not a strong computer to begin with (1gb RAM, weak processor). So I would just expect it to freeze if it had trouble. I was thinking it had to do with overheating, but maybe not. Any suggestions?

Everything is clean. It did help a little when I took some cat hair out of the fan but not enough. New PC is not an option, friend is lending this to me.
@SF I'll check out core temps.
Edit:
That pic with tabs open is right after I opened gmail, maybe the heatsink is not seated properly?

well, just get some new thermal paste, take the heatsink off, clean off the old thermal paste, apply new, reattach heatsink and see how it goes.

100c cpu? Oh god. Seriously. It shuts down because at that temperature the CPU is literally killing itself.
Either the fan is not working, at all, or it is damaged, or you screwed up putting the fan on.
Replace it like SF said then if the problem persists, try another fan. I once had a CPU that idled at 70c(Re-placed fan many times), put a new fan on it, and the temperatures dropped to 28c idle. Those temperatures are WAY too high and it can only mean 3 things.
#1 - You placed the fan on wrong / You put the thermal paste on horribly
#2 - The fan has some major problems
#3 - The CPU has some major problems.
One is easy to fix. Two, just find a stock fan, they are very cheap, and your local computer shop can probably just give you one. Three is warranty work.
