At least a 1Ghz cpu
A video decoder, preferably one that support hd and can work with ci+
A video card with preferably a hdmi output, but s-video is usable too
An operating system like linux or windows
Software to record tv to disk
And a program to play it back (preferably while still recording)
Also, if you're lazy add a remote control (usb or serial)

I want to create dvr like in the image. Maybe not that attractive and powerful. But something like that.
I know microcontoller can not do such video processing.
So I was thinking to use Arm Processor but with what.
I am sure the dvr in the image do not use OS.
And also you didn't told me how will my OS work? If I use a motherboard and a RAM then what is the difference between dvr and a computer? (I don't want to convert a pc into dvr. I want to make a standalone dvr)
Little more info needed please.

There is no difference between a dvr and a computer. (At least not for the company i worked for a while ago where i worked on a dvr that had to record a years worth of recordings)
The bootup is just a flashed bios to show a logo while the os boots.
Easiest is just intel based with an underclocked cpu so a small fan will work.
Then combine that with a mainboard with on board video/hdmi
Also, get a pci bend card so the capture card doesn't go vertical but horizontal
Code: |
___ pci capture card
| converter
___ mainboard
|
That way you get a nice flat device.
Then you can add a panel in front that is basically a keyboard (0=play, 1=stop, 3=fastforward, 4=standby/wake, etc...)
Then just put in linux or windows and make it the recorder you wish it to be

Dang, Then I will also need Ram. Is there something like integrated ram?
I thought I would create something very cheap. But the whole process is taking more than buying a dvr itself. I don't want quality .
I think buying a P2 processor and other things. This will lower my cost. But I wanted a very cheap solution.
And Is my pm not worth answering?

1 gb ram is only $20, which should be enough
But you might be better of getting an even cheaper second hand computer from somewhere, or even just get a dvr
And i'll reply to your pm someday

Wow, I asked the same question in electronic forum and they told me that I can do it. It is impossible and will cost me thousand of dollars.
Now to push my luck even further. I want to know how to create a real time gps system preferably using google earth or instamapper. (here I mean vehicle tracker)
What hardware device I would require. Or how to create a gps tracker?
But you can atleast assign me some task?
And I will love to see you solve that problem. Good Luck

No need. DB is sufficient.
