It depends on what you want to do. If you're going to be playing a lot of games, then don't get one. If you're just going to be taking notes in school, don't get it.

The main reason that I've seen that people get macs is for the experience of OS X. Macbook Pros are nice because they are quite sturdy being aluminum. I've heard many people tell stories of how they accidentally dropped a non-macbook pro and the plastic broke and the laptop was unusable afterwards, while when they accidentally dropped their macbook pros it dented, but worked perfectly fine.

Or especially a new IBM (Lenovo thinkpad).

I have a thinkpad x120e, and it's fantastic. Of Lenovo's current offerings, the x220 is very good. The x130e (the new version of the x120e) is not good, though.

Wait for trinity. I plan to get a laptop with a new trinity cpu. Since you want a mac I doubt you will use it for gaming, so if you MUST get a laptop now, I been eying this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131183

But meh, I'd wait for trinity.

If you're strapped for cash you can always get a hackintosh, but they're usually not fully working and a few versions behind.

If you're really looking to get a mac, I would say wait for Mountain Lion to be released and then go test it out at an Apple Store.
