the mod overall does a very good job of keeping things balanced & less of a headache. The mercs are balanced to the point that even though Act 2 mercs are still coolest imo, they don't reign supreme over everything. You can also make builds much easier since independent skills aren't always shit and aren't just used as synergies like in vanilla. Runewords are 90% less complicated since they all require 1 rune, and just fill all the other sockets (if there are any) before the rune with jewels. There's also a bunch of heroic & uberquests for added difficulty mid-endgame. All of the items are redone & the cube, as in most mods, has a lot more crafting uses. you can check all this shit out on the site itself.
edit: energy is also no longer completely useless since it adds spell power & is actually the most important stat for most caster builds
