|
|
Has anyone had any credit card fraud on their accounts?
I use paypal for all my stuff online purchases which is linked to another bank card which I got for online purchases.
But the account I used for steam as they wouldn't accept my other card details has had a large sum of money spent online (its the one I use for everday use).
I've never had a problem like this before and the banks fixing it no worries.
But steam said their databases was encrypted etc, Yet money has been spent.
There are no rootkits, keyloggers, trojans etc that can be found on my pc, I hardly browse any websites online only email, fb, banking and gaming..
I disable all java, flash etc for all websites and run adblockers etc.
Cheers folks.

There are ways to go undetected you know. See, what you can do is check the bank and look for the reciept of everything you bought and what you know you didn't buy.

I'm very careful on what I install I used to help people remove spyware etc like bleeping computer and a few of the others, so I have all the up to date tools, firewalls etc.
Yes I know there are ways of being hidden, but I avoid going to websites I don't know, I don't open spam email, I don't run anything on this computer that I didn't program myself.
Nothing else has been accessed etc
The banks sorting it at the moment and getting my money back, I know what was purchased etc, was just curious to see where this has come from.
Card wasn't cloned, the details were taken from a transaction I used on a card a while back for my steam purchases which I only use in shops etc in RL and not for any other purchases online, I use paypal for that.

Erm, that is what the topic is about -.- lol.
It was asking if anyone else had any susicious account activity as I wasn't sure whether there was a pesky well hidden rootkit on my pc or whether it was definately their database was compromised and the data decrypted.

Haha, you didn't have to install it. All you needed to do was get on steam for them to try to crack your shit.

How so?
I haven't used my steam account to purchase in a while
It would have been what was saved on record, so they obviously did have access to a decrypted database.
Anyways, I only wanted to know if there was more folk, as I won't be registering with their forums to make a complaint as thats what got me in trouble in the first place

Credit card fraud is probably the least worrisome thing possible.
Just call up the agency and be like, "Yo, I ain't done this shit yo."
And they be like, "K, here's your money back yo, time for us to go hunt down some fraud fuckers."
And that's that.
Just never hand out your social security, that's something to worry about.

This is why i didn't like it when i wanted to buy a game and steam asked to enter CC/bank info instead of making a one-time payment. Got around it by adding custom amount to steam wallet that way you can make a one time payment.
So, no i haven't been a victim, there isn't much the fraud guys could do, you would just need to make a couple of visits to your bank to get the money back. But that is an annoyance indeed.
I think steam is hiding information, they make it sound like nothing big has happened and some script-kiddies defaced couple of their pages which obviously is NOT true. Since the OP, e.g got his info used.

And they will charge you for a little fee + they put you on their blacklist as a possible fraudster. Don't think that a chargeback is easy just like that. There are some reasons of why are people avoiding to request a CB.
Btw. once you have submitted your CC details in any online shop, don't take it seriously that they will ever delete it. You can delete it on your account but they will still keep it on their servers in secret. Every company is doing that since noone is really checking it.

Getting the money back wasn't an issue they said it'd take up to 2 weeks.. took 3 days in the end.
I hadn't even saved my details to steam so it was obviously something from a previous transaction.
Just wanted to be sure it was from steam and not a rootkit that I've been unable to find.
