I had this for a while already (( don't really remember if I had it since when I first built my PC )) sometimes the PC just hard freezes for a couple of seconds.
any idea on what could be causing it or where should I look to diagnose ?

Running any drm protected games at the time of those freezes?
anyhow, do you hear a whizzing sound or something spinning up slowly when it's frozen? Or some ticks? If so, it could be a harddisk that was asleep and something decided to access that harddisk. (And add to that an aging harddisk getting some diskfaults will hog the system until it successfully initializes)

about the freezes, sometimes they happen while in games, other times just by watching youtube.
I do hear a tick normally after the PC unfreezes
and one of my discs gives me some troubles now and then getting my data corrupted (( I normally do disk checks to fix the corrupted data 3 or 4 times a month ))

Sounds like a graphic problem, but at the same time its more likely that hard disk. Replace it.

yeah, that disk is about to die. When windows puts it to sleep it has trouble waking up and thus hogs the system when windows does it's periodical system check/maintenance
you can probably prevent the freezes if you configure the power maintenance to never let the harddisks go to sleep, but I recommend you start copying as much important data from that disk to another one and only use it for the most useless data. Or just buy a new one.
(one of my harddisks did that a while back and eventually just completly died with 2GB of bad sectors near the start)

it was a cheap 1TB disk, I'll just buy another one.
for the time being I just changed the settings to never turn off the hard disks (( it was on 20 minutes ))
lets see if that fixes it. if it does then I'll buy a new disk
-- no freezes so far. I think that was it. thanks.
