So I decided to host a programming contest to see which one of you has the most general programming experience. Reason being is because I think it's a skill the majority of CEF lacks (excluding DarkByte and a couple other experienced programmers).
What I want you to do is make a socket engine that allows users to connect to a specified server using the corresponding port(s) + send and receive data to/from it. Your program has to have an executable form, a modulated form (class), and an API form (hosted SWF). If you don't complete all three of these necessities your entry won't qualify.
FAQ
Q. What version of ActionScript can I use?
A. Any version of ActionScript that can complete this challenge.
Rules
1.) No Plagiarism, doing so will result in an immediate disqualification and infraction or ban from a CEF staff member (the no plagiarism rule doesn't only apply to this contest, read the official site rules).
2.) Your program must be posted on a repository server such as SourceForge or GitHub.
Deadline is June 15, 2011. You can PM me your work or post it here.
Start your engines "programmers".
Reward is x3 +rep and acknowledgment from me as a decent programmer.

Remember to hide watermarks in your code. Such watermarks that real programmers are able to spot it, but newbies aren't. It's always good to take a precaution :)

Holy crap, spammers in my thread.

First of all, what are you talking about?

Lol. Whatever you're talking about hiding code is defeating the purpose of an open-source socket engine. Besides, the code they create can't be posted here raw. Read the rules more thoroughly.

So you're either A.) Spamming my thread, or B.) being an idiot.

This sounds more like a "do my homework for me" type thread more then anything else, along with the fact that its limited to one language.

You're missing his point. You're either... "A" an idiot, "B" a stupid idiot or "C" a dumbass but I have a feeling it's "D" all of the above. Read his post more carefully and stop acting a pretentious douche-bag.
Both TiMBuS and Jani have demonstrated programming prowess many times before you even joined. Who are you to come and just act so high and mighty?
Humility. Learn it.

It's limited to one language because personally I think it's the only language you guys even have the slightest chance of doing this in. But then again, I don't know what led you to that thought considering I specified that it can be done in any version of ActionScript. I doubt you could do it in another language. If so, feel free to prove me wrong. I'm a hobby programmer, I don't take programming classes and I don't have a programmatic job.

Are you an idiot..? Nothing you said makes any sense besides what you just copied from me. But you even did that sloppily. You have no idea what you're talking about and I'd further more appreciate it if you don't come spamming in the threads I make. If you knew how to read let alone understand what I'm saying, you'd know exactly how wrong you are. I can't stand kids who have horrible grammar yet they try to act like they even have a clue about things above simple English. Abstract thought. Learn it. Here's a good definition of it, no need to thank me. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/abstract+thought

Some random guy looking for lulz. You're certainly providing them too.
@topic, Sothe and I saw this coming.
Code: | The Professor: http://forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?p=5241060#5241060; think anyone will be able to complete this challenge on CEF?
Sothe: hmmm
Sothe I have a postulate
Sothe: It's that they will all turn down your challenge, claiming they aren't your bitch.
Sothe: But they just can't do it
The Professor: lol.
The Professor I had a feeling they'd do that. |
This was an MSN log from yesterday.
CEF continues to disappoint me.

Sorry to keep your hopes up but someone who prides themselves in using AutoIT and ActionScript has no right to be in this section.
Someone who touts the word TCP like its the holy grail does not deserve to be in this section.
Someone who believes HTTP is in the same genre of protocols as TCP has no right or credibility to criticize in this section.
When dealing with sockets (whether the underlying protocol is TCP/UDP/SSL/other), the majority of said protocol is transparent to the programmer. But then again, I'm sure you manually set up the TCP header, you manually set up the TCP stack, you manually verify the validity of incoming packets, etc.
Good day, charlatan.

"You guys". Plenty of people in this section have the ability to do this in multiple languages. ActionScript not being one of them because this section has very few Flash programmers. Not because the language is hard, but because its pointless to learn when its tied to Flash specifically. Sure it can be implemented elsewhere, but how often do you see that?
The Professor wrote: | I doubt you could do it in another language. If so, feel free to prove me wrong. I'm a hobby programmer, I don't take programming classes and I don't have a programmatic job. |
That's great. And I doubt you can do it at all. See how opinions work? Everyone has one. Sorry but network communication is part of my job, I can do this in several different languages and do I care to prove you wrong? No.
Going to have to agree with sponge's "who are you". Does anyone here even want your acknowledgement? Doubtful.

Given the fact that you even proved this thread has no value or purpose. I'm just going to lock it.
