Ok so, I got a HP Pavilion DV6000 special edition for free from my teacher because it was busted and BestBuy is trying to charge him $200 for a motherboard replacement.
so I did some research on google and found out that the HP DV2000,6000 and 9000 series had defective motherboards and HP actually did a recall on some of them.
but i managed to fix it by reflowing the solder joint on the GPU with a jet lighter. oddly enough i didnt see any thermal compound on the heatsink.
after i fixed it and play some mplestory, it crashed after 5 mins, the screen just went black. Then I played some CS1.6 and it last for more than an hour without any problem. could the GPU overheated and did a thermal shutdown?
