ok, i have these 2 options:

Intel Core i7 2600k;
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3;
Kingston 4gb DDR3 1333Mhz;
Western Digital 500gb SATA3;
Radeon HD 5770;
Lame computer case;

versus:

AMD Phenom II x6 1100t;
Asus M4A89GTD PRO;
Kingston 4gb DDR3 1333Mhz;
Western Digital 500gb SATA3;
Radeon HD 6850;
Nice computer case;

my plan is to spend R$ 3000 ( U$ 1900 ), and both top up this value, and i would use this computer for the next 5 years.

pro/cons:

i7 2600k can be OCed to 4Ghz on air (stock cooler), and up to 5,5 GHz on a nice cooler. new architecture, not going be obsolete soon;
1100t can go up to 3.8 on air, 4.5 on nice cooler. old architecture, will be obsolete soon with the bulldozer coming out.

HD 5770 can play my games, and further i can crossfire it with another 5770. but they will be obsolete in prob 2 years.
6850 is way better than 5770, and i can later crossfire it with another 6850, but i will spend twice the money as 5770 crossfiring it, although i dont care spending more money later.

so, what do u guys think about it?

The amd by far just because it has the 6850. 6850 is way more badass than a 5770. If you plan to game I'd get the amd build. Go intel if you need it for hardcore programs and rendering,.

Are you building this computer or buying it prebuilt? Because if you are building it, $1,900 will get you a 2600k and a 6xxx series card. The 2600k is an absolute beast. The CPU is on par with the 980x and passes it in some benches. (When OC'd)

Core i7 2600K murders the Core i7 980x at stock clocks even it's got 2 less cores. The only advantage with the 980x is only if you do professional work like video editing where the 2 extra cores can add a performance advantage. Right now for Intel platform, anything that isn't Sandy Bridge isn't even worth it and that includes the Intel Core i7 990x.

Yeah, the 2600k is one hell of a processor. Imagine when Ivy Bridge gets released... They are shooting for a 20% increase over Sandy Bridge. It's going to be crazy.

@slovach:

Yeah, nice option, but i cant resist having a imba gear.

Since my focus are in games, i wouldnt use all cores in the processor.

Overclocking 2 cores at high speeds is the shit.
Thats what atract me to phenom. ive heard about 4 cores underclocked and 2 overclocked to 5 GHz with stock cooler. Great improve on gaming performance.

But then i found out that 2600k hits 4.5 on 4 cores with stock cooler, and its more efficient than AMD.

Well, i will do Intel.

but now please help me:

is it possible to underclock 2 cores (4 threads) and overclock the others on 2600k for better temperatures?
or should i wait bulldozer to come out, since im buying the computer next year? any other option?

prices on coolers are too high here in brazil. about 3 to 6 times normal prices in US$ (dam taxes), and its not going to be an option buying a good one. (about 450 dollars the H70 lol).

The HD6850 is up to 50% faster in games than the 5770, especially if you have AA turned on.

HD5770 128 bit / 800 Unified Shaders / Memory Bandwith 76 GB/s

HD6850 256 bit / 960 Unified Shaders / Memory Bandwith 128 GB/s

This is what makes the difference. The lower clocks donīt fall into count that much.

Also better DX11 Tesselation support. Uniengine Heaven Bench 2.1 had a major increase, also Metro2033.

Don't quote me on this, but I remember reading somewhere that it is possible. I think some guy... overclocked two cores to 4.6 and underclocked the others to 2.2 or something.

afaik not manually but turbo boost or whatever may push up certain cores.

you can probably disable cores though, if you really feel so inclined.
