I just recently installed win 2000 on my computer and it works fine. I recieved the BSOD and reformatted my drive. But no worries, i have backed up all my software, documents and everything else. Now, i'm running win 2000 and can also run Win Xp.
1 prob is, i installed an old harddrive salvaged from my old fried PC (Overclocked ), now it makes a very irritating noise. Anyway i can minimize it? _________________

No. you cannot minimize it. unless you put noise canceller inside your PC. _________________

Is it an extremely annoying high pitched whining? Get a new drive if it is. I've had a few old IDE drives that did so and I'd wake up with headaches every day because of it. Literally harmful to your health. _________________

Yep. Those annoying high pitched noise drives. It's my first secondary storage hard drive i've installed. I just use for storage. But does not bother me while doing stuff. It only starts the noise whenever i enter the drive. eg:
F:\ double click, hover on something... Noise starts. _________________

Back when my old computer was still working, it has that harddrive and does not create as much noise as today. Probably the fan noise of that old PC was loud and i was well accustomed to it.
Now, i have a much less noisier computer, about 9x more silent.
I'd probably get a new 40gig HDD soon. _________________

What's the difference of SSD and HDD?
Are there any specific requirements?
I currently have about $200 to spend. I don't need a new harddrive yet though. _________________

Info on SSD if you don't know what they are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive
Requirements are based on the port needed on the drive. Mainly SATA for SSD drives. You can buy them with old SCSI ports if needed or use a converter but thats kinda pointless in the end. They're also typically more expensive. If you don't absolutely need some state of the art hardware just get a normal drive. _________________
