I'm running MSN, and Steam, and I idle at at 1.5GB usage of ram.
Now, I know little small components of other software like Adobe, iTunes and all that can add up, but is it normal to be idling at 1.6~GB Memory usage?

Maybe I'm just a little greedy about it..

How much do you have?

I'm usually around 5GB in use, not too much running either.
Firefox (4 tabs); MSN (1 conversation); mIRC; jDownloader; .SHN file editor (2 instances); and a local Fiesta Online server services (~2.5GB used by them total)

Right now, I'm running 1 tab (FireFox), Steam, and MSN (No convos), 1.73GB usage.

I'm paying over about 2gb and I've got way more opened.
Utorrent(6 torrents uploading), Two msns (5 convos total), Firefox(20 tabs), MSpaint (3 open), Wolfram Mathematica, Itunes (playing music), 15 calculators (It's easier to open a new one than find an open one..), wordpad, two notepads, 4 folders, and task manager.

I suggest opening task manager, switching to the processes tab, and organizing the list by those that use the most memory to find out what's so RAM-intensive.

No, 2.5GB. 1.7GB is the zone server alone, not counting login servers, world servers, etc.

there's nothing to work around.

just relax and leave windows to work. as long as you aren't thrashing your hard drive to pieces (which is what windows will try to prevent) you are in good shape.
