connection? So I connected to my neighbors wireless internet and downloaded quite a bit, (enough for them to go over their limit) but their wireless had no password on it, will I still be held responsible or what?

Unless they know where the leeching is coming from, it is a crime to use someone's internet connection without their permission. You can get arrested if they found out it's you who's doing it.
Then again, your neighbor is stupid for not protecting their wifi in the first place.

You can get a felony for leeching internet? Whoa never knew that....
Unless they can find out who's been doing it you're fine. It's their fault for not protecting their shit anyway. Probably several of your other neighbors are doing it also.

Yeah, but since they are dumb enough to probably not even know that you can put a passkey on the signal, they wont even know it was you.

Yes you can be held responsible, but you probably won't It's highly unlikely they'd ever figure out who it was, or even what happened.
Using up someone's limit is a seriously cunty thing to do though, you should be genuinely ashamed of yourself.

You can be sued and You would have to pay a fine.
If I leave some money on the table, go away for a minute and it is not there when I come back, it is still a theft. It wasn't protected but taking other's money is a theft and by law, You should report to authorities if You find something so maybe they can find the real owner. Of course probably no one brings in found money to the police, but with this, they are violating the law and it is legally a theft.
So the concept is simple. If it is not Yours and You have used it without the owner's permission, it is a crime, regardless of the zero efforts of the owner to keep it safe. Just keep it low and pray that they will not find out it was You. Or else they can invite You to court to pay for the stolen bandwitdth plus for the inconveniences that You have caused. If they can prove it, You will have to pay. And even if they just suspect it but cannot prove it, then Your neighbour will be Your enemy (which isn't the best thing).
It happened in several cases already.
