So I am in my Computer enginering class and I over hear one student saying "The thing is, linux sucks dick so noone makes viruses for it"
This level of ignorance and stupidity is common inmy country, share your storie of how ignorant one can truly be about technology _________________

Kids that think they know how to hack:

There are so many videos like this on YouTube, it's fairly depressing. _________________

Now I am depressed too. Totally. This kid is either very stupid or this was just some joke. Tracert will show who is using Google... Oh my...
And for Linux, it doesn't suck but kids like this one should just stick to Windows. He would never learn how to use Linux at all (not like He has learned how to use Windows). _________________

I fucking lol'd so hard.
On the topic of this thread, I personally hate Linux. I think it's overrated. It's fiddly and not user-friendly since most of its distros have a shit, counter-intuitive UI. You must learn to use an ancient command line system that has remained for the most unchanged for the past few decades. The common ignorant comment on Linux is that it's for the 'pros' and 'developers', not for the regular end user. Speaking as a developer I can honestly say Linux is an antiquated pig. |

I booted into linux one time to save a windows install a windows service pack install somehow hosed, it was pretty cool. I copy pasted like one file, felt like a pimp.
I've also run linux and windows game servers before and I can't say I've had trouble with either but it was easier to maintain the windows box since I'm painfully linux retarded. |

Umm? I must be a fanboy but, when I first started into Linux it was very easy to work with. And you don't have to use the command line. You can use Synaptic and the software center. Sure, some things you do have to use the command line for. BUT for the average person, they probably won't need to use command line. I personally, love Linux. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of games and no Steam. Other than that I'd use Linux over Windows. Also, Slovach. You don't need to maintain Linux that much. Most of the problems that you would have with windows are not in Linux since Linux doesn't have a registry. To clean temporary internet files and junk, just use BlachBit. Type it in the search bar in Synaptic. It's the equivalent to CCleaner. |

Would have to agree with this from a programming point of view. I don't hate Linux, and would like to become more fluent with it, but it is honestly counter-productive as I have no interest in programming portable applications to run on an OS I never plan to use.
Those who do use it just act, as you said 'pro', because their ancient command line makes them feel superior. I'll take a Gui over a command line any day. And make files are the fucking devils witchcraft -.- _________________

in my country there's a lot of ignorance about technology.. as a example they think 10$ xxxx power supplys are the same as cooler master, corsair, etc 40$+ power supplys... and that if you connect a system to a 600 watts power supply and then to a 350 watts one (when the system power consumption is less than 300 watts) it will explode |

I could tell You stupid stories all day. Some people think that BSOD is caused by the very same error every time. If they had a VGA which had an error and caused BSOD, they will think that BSOD always means a bad VGA. The text is not even important. Is it blue with white letters? It is a bad VGA for sure.
And dumber and dumber things. They don't even bother to read to what do You expect. _________________

I have that beat. At work we are starting to deploy 64-bit Win 7 boxes. Had a manger complain today that her computer took longer to boot because of the new monitor we sent along with it. I asked her what she meant, she said "well it's just taking longer, it's like it has to put more pixels up on that screen, so I want my old one back so it'll boot faster". _________________

The same person who made the linux comment failed our latest project
Build a computer under 1400 dollars, he managed to use the one mother board that did not support a 240 pin ram card lolololol _________________
