So let's say I deleted a word file, and then deleted it in the recycle bin as well.
How would I go about recovering it?
I tried to google it, and a jungle of different tools pops up, and I'm quite sure most of them is scam anyway. So do you have any methods or tools you'd recommend?
I read through the sticky, and the tool there isn't attached anymore.
I'd like a solution within Friday night :]

The most important thing is to not copy anything to that hard drive,
because You could overwrite the file, or some parts of that file. And I didn't use any tools like this ages ago, so I don't know which one is cool in these days.

I used to have a tool called File Scavenger for when things like this happen accidentally. It is a recovery tool which can locate deleted files which would otherwise be invisible since they are marked to be replaced on the disk.

You can look for free alternatives to this type of tool though if you don't want to spend the money. Such as the same company that makes CCleaner, they have a free recovery tool Recuva. Never used it so can't give any feedback on it but its worth a try:

There are some free software available like Recuva you can try it heard a lot about dis software but never used it. For recovery software, I bought one before called "Kernel for FAT and NTFS" good thing is that it's one time payment and then it allows me to use forever. Take a look if you do not mind paying to get back your data, U can also download d trial version. Using trial version u can preview d data recovered but to save it u hav to purchase the software

Windows has a service called Volume Shadow Copy (default:off) in which it keeps a record of changes made to a folder. If you deleted a file and empty from the recycle bin, you can go to that folder go back to a previous date and get your files back.
The program does it automatically, but can't seem to find a way to manual create a shadow set.
