I have Arachnophobia, meaning I'm terrified of spiders. I already freak out when I see a spider web or when I'm near a spider.
Cause:
Unknown. I might have seen a spider crawl on me as a baby, causing the phobia.

Ants and large, underwater areas. I'm not exactly sure why, but I'm just completely terrified of Huge open areas underwater. I could be in the middle of the pacific ocean and not be afraid, but when I look down I nearly shit my pants. And ants. If I see a few, I'm fine with it. If i see a few thousand, I freak out.

And... the dark, to a certain degree. Like, usually I couldn't care less about how much light is in a room, but it pops up really quickly if I watch/read scary things. I could laugh through a whole horror movie and only really be scared the night after. It's probably because when I was little I watched Halloween. Not only did I think that psycho was real, my older cousin convinced me that he was watching me. ><;

Getting maimed and not dieing immediately.
I'm not scared of dieing, just getting real messed up and having to eat thru a tube and stay in a bed or wheelchair for the rest of my life.
Bugs/spiders don't bother me.

Exactly my fear. I went swimming in the ocean when I was about 8. I nearly died. This fear of water deeper than 2 metres, and large expanses of it has kept me landstriken for too long. About a month ago I went snorkelling, as an attempt to get over it (it's a big deal when you live in the middle of the Pacific, I am always being invited to islands to swim and chill). Snorkelling went ok, but when I got to the second drop off around the islands (water goes from 2 metres -> 5 metres deep), I shat my pants. There was a huge ass bed of waving seaweed and a school of baracuda.
Also, the other weekend I went to an island with friends. The boat we went on was big, and there was no jetty on the island. There was a 150m swim to the island. The water went from 4 metres, at the boat. It was crystal clear, and at the bottom there were huge red starfish. I crapped my pants, and then my friend told me to watch out because some of them are poisonous. I made the swim alright, but didn't dare look down until I was in less than a metre of water.
