Just wanted to know if it is possible to damage ram\mobo by mixing different ram sticks. Right now I have 6GB and wanted a small upgrade (10gb) and was not sure if it's possible to mix.

The kit I have now is
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227365

Kit I want to mix it with is
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227483

Thanks in advanced Very Happy.

Is your motherboard triple or dual channel?

In that case, inserting a dual channel kit would force your ram into single channel, sacrificing a bit of memory performance and/or screwing shit up. It would be wiser to add on a new kit that was also triple channel, be it 3 or 6 gigs.

as long as both ram speeds match, or even don't, it will work. In example, if one ram is 667mhz, and one is 800, both sticks will run 667mhz. But as long as they are the same type ( ddr2 ddr3 ) it should work. People do not recommend it though.

Forget performance, I REALLY wouldn't take the chance that your motherboard won't like the channel switch.

the only risk of messing with your ram sticks nowdays is that your pc wont boot with the wrong configuration

Well if I do get the memory and it does not work I could always put it in my 2nd computer so I am not too worried about loosing money, really if it works great if not to bad, just don't want any damage being done to my computer Confused

That reasoning is retarded, why are you buying more ram to your computer when you obviously don't care if it's any use or not? (I doubt you'd use more than your current ram anyway.

Talk about a waste of money, literally..

I want to run a minecraft server on one of the computers (rather it be on my main computer than 2nd) no paging file so I keep getting out of memory pop ups, my second computer only has 1gb ram so it could use the extra memory as well. + I have a 40$ discount on my next newegg purchase.

Don't even bother, no minecraft server that's run on a home connection is going to be very good. It doesn't matter if you have 192GB of memory, your home connection will cap the performance of your server long before your memory will.
