|
|
I have windows 7 on one computer
and windows xp SP3 on the other
whenever i try to add a wireless printer, it says windows can't find the suitable drivers for this printer, please contact...
Its brother hp Laserjet 3030
I turned on sharing for both computers, and enabled the printers for sharing also
Also tried to install the drivers manually but didn't work

There are a few ways of sharing printers and it depends on its capabilities.
Option #1: Directly connect the printer to one of your computers and then shared it. The downside to this is, if your going to print from another computer, the computer the printer is directly connected to, must be on.
Option #2: Get a router with print server function. This lets you connect your printer directly to the router, configure it like giving a IP/network address, and then install the printer driver on both computers.
Your router's print server will handle the printing.
Option #3: Certain new printers have wireless. You just connect to your router like any regular wireless device and it's all set.
Then install printer software to your computers.

The driver will only work for the OS it was written with.
Click the link on in one of the post, and download the appropriate drivers to your OS.

Try system restore before you installed the printer or check on their site to see if there is a cleaning tool.

Assuming this printer has it's own IP, instead of using HP's tools which are crap, install only the hardware drivers.
Control Panel, Add Printers, Create Port, Standard TCP/IP (NOT HP TCP/IP), point to the printers IP both computers should see and install it. If a suitable driver can't be found try using the HP Laserjet 6P drivers, these are old school and work with 85% of HP printers.

How do I get the printers IP?
Where can I find Laserjet 6P drivers?

If it's wireless you should be able to connect via a startup tool. Or on some models the network is configured to DHCP, so your router should set it's IP. I suggest changing the DHCP setting and setting it's IP manually to a static one. This will eliminate losing the printer on power failure and it getting assigned another IP. Look in the configuration of the printer. You should be able to print one from the LCD interface using the menu buttons. Laserjet 6P drivers are old school they are included with Windows XP on up. You should be able to see those when you select that it's an HP printer, just scroll in the right hand printer window till you find the LaserJet 6P driver set.

How is a Netmap hotfix going to solve this? And I'd be leary of any MS patch that came from a site other than MS.

If he can't get it to work with the wireless printer, this should help him get around (not a direct fix though ) using file and printer sharing. And i assume if he hasn't got a genuine copy for the hotfix (since MS requires it for download), else, then why not go directly to MS (and request for it, since the hotfix available is intended only for XP SP2).
