www.registryfix.com

I have used it for quite a while, never had problems with it.

Recently my AV (ESET Smart Security) detected it as "a variant of Win32/Adware.ErrorClean application"

What do I do? What are some good alternatives or what products do you use to keep registry clean?

At work I use http://majorgeeks.com/RegScrubVistaXP_d5946.html
Also use it at home on occasion.

Not that I'm aware of. You could scan it against another AV, there is a chance it's a false positive.

Personally, I use Registry Mechanic.

Malware or not?
-Some AV, particularly McAffee says: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/registryfix.com
-While others says: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/noadware.net and that RegistryFix belongs to Marketflip Technologies,LLC and its domain is registered through domains by proxy. (But neither any license nor website states proper contact information about the company.)

Bottom line, malware or not, rather using this kind of 'free scan' (or any online) why not get yourself a software that came from trusted companies. Not only that is effective, it could also free you from worries.

thanks for the answer. what are some trusted companies that sell good registry cleaners? and I've heard that Registry Mechanic is also a rogue piece of software, though I can't be assured

avg 10 (non free version) has "PC analyzer' which checks the registry and other stuff.

But really, I would never trust eset when it says something is bad. AV's tend to be biased against software made by the competitor (most likely eset is planning or already has a registry cleaner as well)

I have a licensed version of AV and Anti-spy, but so far doesn't have problems using it. The ones you have might be from the activex being downloaded by registryfix and misinterpret it as virus. (Don't use it again though) Cool

It's rouge software... it could potentially be harmful.

Use Glary Utilities Or Advanced System Care. DON'T USE CCLEANER Last time I used Ccleaner it fucked up my registry and I didn't have restore points so my system couldn't boot. . . and I had to get a new computer.

That's because you fucked something up. I've been using CCleaner for years and it's yet to cause a single problem.

I don't trust Ccleaner. . . Because it's way too aggressive when it "cleans". It uses defragmenting scanners to find flaws for registry errors and it leads to false positives.
