Curious about how much your local shops overprices.
Computer Exchange near me has 250GB SATA drives for $69 (Bought a 1TB SATA drive, molex->sata adapter and a SATA data cord all for $71 on Newegg a few weeks ago.)

Pricing depends on where I am. Besides, "local" computer shops almost never have what I need in stock.

Reference pricing in HK, though most people know how to bargain and price-match in order to shave off at LEAST $50 USD. Stuff is easy to obtain when you have 50+ computer shops all bunched up in a mall, not to mention 3 of them.

British Columbia's dominant computer store (moving into Ontario as well), you can also price-match items from other shops such as Newegg and such.

They all do especially the smaller businesses. It's insane, like, my pc that I paid around 750 for, for like 1100. INSANE, really.

Quantity = discounts
Newegg is a large company which means the items they ordered are in the thousands or more. This brings down the price they get thus are able to sell it at a cheaper price.
A local shop may not order that much, thus they got it at a price which is higher than newegg and the reason why it cost more.
e.g.
Let's say you own a PC shop and needed to order some 1TB HDDs and each cost $65
Now the distributor you're buying from says, if you buy 1000 pieces then each drive will cost $40 bucks.
Since you don't need that much, you're will have to pay at the price of $65.
This money comes out from your own pocket.
Now the purpose of you running a PC shop is to earn profit.
In order to do that you need to bring the price up.
$65 the amount you buy with your own money
Sell it for $70. You get your $65 you have before and earn $5 dollars.
If someone comes in and bargins, and you sold it for $60, then you loose $5.
