Well my friend wants me to build him a computer and i had a build but lost the specs. Budget is 1000-1500- USD I asked him he said he wanted to game a lot. So if you guys have any build ideas that'd be great. In the mean-time i shall remake the build i had to compare it.

Yes he did want a new monitor and all that. That build looks good. But i figured he have a more powerful graphics card for 1500 bucks maybe a 5870 since he wanted a powerhouse.

The HD5850 provides plenty of performance running games at 1920x1200 and it's $100 less than the HD5870.
If you want the HD5870, then it's your choice, mind you it will go over $1500.

And yes it's your friend, so you want to ensure this build is top notch as
your reputation is on the line.

Well i mean reason i suggested it is because i asked him and he really wanted to play like the newest games on really high
settings and i figured at 1920x1200 a 5850 would struggle with keeping a good frame rate.

I have a HD5850 and can play games at 1920x1200 with good frame rates.

Also most screens right now are 16:9 not 16:10
That Acer 24" is a 16:9 (1920x1080)

The cheapest 16:10 inch (1920x1200)

Don't get a 5870. I had no idea what was what when I built my computer, so I bought the best stuff I could afford. You know, because I didn't think that the 5850 was better enough than what I came from, so I had to get that 5870. I overdid it with the 5870, don't have your friend do the same thing. i7 + 5850 will rip through anything, and I mean anything.

Well if you really think its that much of a waste, sure ill stick to the 5850, i just figured since it was a 24 inch monitor the 5850 would struggle.

HAHALOLno. But actually your saying "struggle" "24 inch monitor" and "5850" all in the same sentence did make me lol.

Hey, I'm just looking out for me here. I don't want to build this for him and be like "Yea I lag in a lot of games." I was just making sure, so i guess I'm underestimating the 5850.

Monitor size != resolution. My 21.5" monitor is 1920x1080, and I've seen 24" ones with only 1600x900.

Take a GTX 460 for comparison, it can handle 1920x1080 in most games quite easily on stock, and it's designed to compete against the 57xx-5830. The 5850 is fine for your uses.
