Open your sound center from Control Panel. There may be more information there.

I'm just guessing. Maybe there could be something wrong inside the speakers like the cord could be damaged from the inside or something wrong inside the speaker that won't play any sound, correct me if I'm wrong...

I think it's software because it usually doesn't show the Realtek digital output thing. I'll test headphones soon...

@ the speaker problem, it might be a currupted driver, any malware can do this.

Perhaps he had two different sound drivers, and 1 of them was blocking the other one?
