Hey guys I am back, I haven't been on the forums for some time. Very Happy

SO! My laptop died yesterday at the age of 5 years :/
What happened is that my laptop had one of it's key registries deleted by a virus. (As told by a good friend.)

And what I need to do it find my Windows XP Media Center Edition CD to format my PC.

Problem: Last year I gave my PC to Geek Squad (It was okay service...) to replace my older OS because a virus raped it hard. BUT they didn't give me an OS CD in case something like that happened.

So I am asking: How do I format my PC without the OS CD they used on my laptop? Can I get a torrent link maybe?

On a side note: 1) When I boot pass the windows loading screen, the whole screen goes BLUE and it gives me a bunch of (0000x0000 00000x0000) and a [The system is now shut down.]

2) I have a bad torrented XP OS CD and it doesn't let me install it or do system restore because it tells me that "Your HDD isn't properly connected" but my HDD is working fine.

THANKS!

use a program to rip the key and then just get the iso off the net. Its legal as you own the key.

You can boot into Rescue Console and disable the "Reboot on Hardware Failure" option, this will let you see why it is hanging.

The reason your CD isn't recognizing your harddrive is your disk is most likely SATA, the default XP disks only looked for IDE drives. Without a 3rd party driver for SATA it will not read your disk. Usually on OEM disks, they come with your system drivers on them as well.

You could try to find a torrent of an OEM from your manufacturer, or you could call the manufacturer and have them send you one.

Depending on your system, the key may be somewhere on the case. Such as with Dell, HP, and so on, they have the sticker on the bottom of the laptop, or inside the battery cover.

You can use a tool like this to recover your key if you don't see it on the case somewhere:
