I need to convert a video from .mkv to something my 360 can play. Thing is it doesn't retain subs when I do .avi or anything. I was using xilisoft. What can I do?

I've had good luck with this software.
vso-software(dot)fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ but I've used this one to include subs onto a dvd. Not done MKV but docs say it will.
I also use the Xilistoft converter.

well, I either need something that will keep the subtitle track in play or can extract the subtitle file so I can use it on xilisoft. It supports adding a .ass file.

Convert will do .srt .ssa .sub and .idx most of my subs are srt so I'm not sure it will do what you need.
You could try SubResync, it's supposed to support converting ass to srt.

MKVExtractGUI can extract almost everything from mkv format; subs, vid, audio, fonts.

meh. I've tried some thingsto rip the subs. It be easier if vlc would let me remove them or something. I dont get why it doesnt keep subs when its encoded into the video already.
