Well, it's come around that time. When I finally admit my PC is a total pile of shit and that I need a new one.
| Quote: | | [19:08:49] <SF> OS: Windows XP Professional SP3 (Build #2600) CPU: AMD Sempron 3100+, 1.81 GHz, 256 KB Video: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 (1280x1024x32bpp 60Hz) Sound: Realtek AC97 Audio Memory: Used: 1576/2015MB Uptime: 2d 19h 1m 10s HD Space: Free: 1621.28 GB/1983.45 GB Connection: NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - Packet Scheduler Miniport @ 100.0 Mbps (Rec: 2859.62MB Sent: 145.38MB) |
Only problem is I'm only a dishwasher at a Bob Evans right now and work one day a week, so.. I only make about $100 a month unless I get called in for more work.
I get 8FPS on Minecraft right now, which is total shit.
I'd like a $400 build. $450 MAX. It doesn't have to be anything uber special. Newegg will be my place of shopping.
I don't need monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers. I currently have this tower: http://images.pcworld.com/reviews/graphics/125557-2407p074-1b.jpg
For those who must know what I use it for; movies, music, games. Won't be playing anything more intensive than borderlands.
So, let's see what you can come up with?

You can get a quad core (Phenom X4) for 70 dollars, I made a build that was around this budget. Let me see if I can still find it.

I'm wanting to replace the board as well, saf. Only want to keep the case if possible. The board is total shit, one of the ram banks barely works in it and it has an onboard geforce 6100.
Unless you were talking about what I had linked, which I removed as it'll be too expensive with those.

Even if you can change the board and so forth, check if the back plate is removable or not because Gateway do have some cases where all they do is create cut outs for the i/o ports for their specified boards.
In case if your wondering why I've said Gateway and not eMachines is Gateway acquired eMachines which was then gobbled up by Acer.

ah, thanks for that. Not removable, so I'll probably just use it as a small file server or something once I build a new one.

That mobo is more than likely an micro atx, I mean you can look and get some cheap cases (also download and install the firefox/chrome addon InvisibleHand it gets the lowest price of the current item you are browsing on like 20 different sites.
Yeah I was saying that to Pirate because you have a cpu from before socket 939 (754->939->AM2->AM2+->AM3), mind you a lot of the AMD tri/dual cores you can usually unlock to a either a quad core (from dual or tri) to a tri-core (dual core).
Also go with AMD since they are a lot cheaper (part wise).
Edit-
good case for price range (30 bucks)

So, let's see what you can come up with? | You have no idea what you are getting into Borderlands uses more power than you think. I play max settings and I get 50 - 60 frames in more cluttered areas like new haven, and in more wide open areas like salty flats 40 frames. I also have options enabled that gearbox hid.
What is the model of this pc? Cannot really tell by a picture. If anything you could change the mobo, reuse the rem, get a 4800 series card, change psu, reuse most other stuff.
Edit: I've privately put my 2 cents in. The psu is rather weak.

Ehh, this is my first time suggesting a build so bare with me.
This build is $430, and features a Quad Core and a 4850.
You can swap the HD/PSU for a better one if you wish.

Problem1: Shitty PSU
Problem 2: Why are you getting a shitty CPU and a AM2+ mobo?
Problem3: He already has his build haha
edit1:
This has a future proof mobo (supports x6 phenom, 6gb/s sata, and usb 3.0)
Crossfire
Core Unlocker
DDR3 Ram
Two 80MM fans (good ones)

I see, so II's rape them?
Also, the PSU is pretty good for its price/Reviews.

Price != review
It's all about the weight, brand, AMPS, watts, reviews, then price/

He can get the 500 GB variant for less. Also, that card is fucking amazing for the price. I'm going to order mines on Saturday.
