Hey guys
So my graphics card right now is sort of dying, nvidia 7900GS. I need a new graphics card and minimum requirement is that it supports 2 digital ports for the monitor, so the white ones ( DVI ).
The card I'm looking at right now is ATI Radeon HD5750.
http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/XFX-512MB-GDDR5-ATI-Radeon-HD5750-DVI--HDMI--VGA-PCI-E_24975.html
That is pretty much the top price range I am gonna go for at this point. I just want to know whether that is a good card to get or not. I'm not looking to do much heavy gaming, maybe a few hours every few weeks or something. But I do want something that I won't have to replace for maybe a few years. I do not really want something that is gonna need heavy cooling, take up a lot of power and be really noisy.
Advice I'm looking for is sort of stuff like if there is a better graphics card in approximate same price range or another one that is only a little more expensive but a lot better or something.
Also if anyone is able to find that same card from a reputable retailer at any cheaper that would be great too.
One thing I'm a bit worried about is whether my current PSU can handle this card. How do I check that without opening up the case ?
// edit : just found this :
http://www.kikatek.com/product_info.php?products_id=146276&source=froogle
is that legit.. ? seems stupidly cheap

in regard to your edit, 5570's exist.
MSI R5570-MD1G GIGABYTE ATI RADEON HD 5770 1024MB 128BIT DDR3 DVI D-SUB HDMI CROSSFIRE PCIE GRAPHICS CARD
it's a 5570, not a 5770. the site has the description wrong.

oh okay that makes sense. yeah i was looking through this table actually :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units#Evergreen_.28HD_5xxx.29_series
it's weird how the release dates don't actually correspond to their version numbers eh..
// edit : okay i changed my mind about my requirements. i figure i don't need such a nice graphics card. all i want is one now that can support dx11 and has 2 DVI ports. HDMI does not matter.
urgh all so expensive. considering going for HD4650. is dx11 important.. ?

Games will not, but Windows 7 so of the current thing that makes people get into DX11.
And this most likely.

| DB censors the weirdest things. Having dual monitors on DVI isn't a requirement. Like all new gfx cards do that. Some have 4 dvi ports and can quad monitor. I find it hard to believe the first link is priced right. a 57xx should be around 160 USD. Shouldn't that still be higher in pounds? 90 pounds is like 130USD right? The price sounds way off for a 57xx series card.

okay thanks all. just bought a 4850 | what brand? Good choice of gpu anyway. 4850 is still a beast. His post has nothing to do with mine anyway. I'm questioning a price of a different link you posted.

| Good luck with that. XFX fans suck and they voltage lock it so don't expect to OC it.

dx11 supports fallbacks all the way back to dx9 hardware, software wise.
it breaks it up into featuresets. while with a 4850 you cannot access dx11 specific features, the api will work without a problem if the application actually bothered creating a fallback.
so yes, you can write code using the dx11 api and it can work all the way down to dx9 level hardware. you don't need a dx11 hardware card to actually use the api.
