Requirements:
* Under $600
* Laptop ONLY
* A better deal than this:
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PSAT0U-00M001B-3R&cat=NBB

If you can help me with this, I'd be grateful. Thanks!!

Also, I'll be using this laptop for miscellaneous stuff. Really, the laptop isn't for me (it's for my sister), so I was hoping some of you guys could help me out. Don't really know what she uses it for. Maybe some games? :\

Edit:
She uses it for very light gaming and entertainment (mainly downloading movies)

If you can live with less HDD space, this has a igp that can actually play HD videos.

changed with one having dedicated memory.

If you really want to play some light games like assassin's creed 2 or MW2 effectively, I'd recommend this laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115732&cm_re=acer_i5-_-34-115-732-_-Product

At $800, yeah, it's over your budget, but it has really great specs. For $50 less actually, there's another version which has a little worse processor but more HDD. Take your pick.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115733&cm_re=acer_i5-_-34-115-733-_-Product

Those are the best bang-for-your-buck laptops I could find.

Faggotry time:

let's summarize the those two post above
old ass AMD mobile CPU for shitty battery
Crappy Acer support and gimped out display
also, i5 with 5650 ain't going to get you any close playing console port effectively, maybe if at lowest. even the 5870m only have the desktop power of 5750
best bang for the buck alright

OP, look for a Thinkpad, they are strong as a brick, or any Asus ULVC laptop with switchable graphic
i bet your sister's gaeming need is flash gaems and facebook gaems, and i bet a EEE PC with Ion can do goddamn well for it.
If you don't give a shit about support and reliability, go on some deal forum sites and look for whichever laptop that is on sale
Hero's laptop is only $300 at FRY's
or $380 at Office Max

I'm a little puzzled you would say a 5650m couldn't do console port. The 5650m has 400 stream processors, running at 650 mhz, the exact equivalent of a desktop 5570. A 5570 can certainly run MW2, especially on only 1366x768.

As for your failure rate stuff, acer has never treated me badly with the couple of laptops of their's I've had in the past. I wouldn't not buy from a certain manufacturer just because some chart says they malfunction more.

Faggotry time round two:
code]high:

[X] Vaio VPC-EB1S1E/BJ
Intel Core i5 430M 2.3GHz
Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (450MHz), 1024MB (790MHz) , 8.14.10.0708

4096MB RAM
~ 40 fps

~40fps for fps game at med-high setting, so expect to play at low-med if you want perfect 60fps
i seriously doubt his sister is going to play MW2, AC2 on her laptop, therefor there is really no point paying a premium for such laptop without switchable graphic
~30fps are generally bullshit for fps game, as it look fucking ugly hurts performance

My aspire one netbook has been to hell and back and works. Reformatted over 20 times for testing things, ripped apart and put back together so many damn times. Its fallen a few times. Its pretty solid still. Over a year old now. The battery life has always sucked, but otherwise acer has never let me down.

No idiot. The point is, they make a solid laptop. If its going to die it will, but otherwise they use solid hardware.

You my friend are a smart man. She won't be playing any intensive games, just things like facebook and stuff. I tried getting her to buy a cheap laptop now, and then in a few years once it's outdated she can buy another cheap laptop, etc.

Unfortunately, since her mind works weird, she wants a decent laptop, even though she won't even use all of her resources. Anything from a $500-$600 range is good enough for her.

@Person who posted the $800 laptop: Thanks for the idea and stuff, but she said that if it's over $600 she'll be taking a loan from my dad. Honestly, I don't want her to do that, and she doesn't really need a high-end computer anyway.

Looks like the acer the 2nd poster posted is the best bet so far. Or maybe a thinkpad? More suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit #1:

What about this computer? Seems like the best bang for your buck, but portability and battery life are shit. Kinda seems like it's defeating the point of buying a laptop.

Cheapest one that you can buy if you don't care about quality.
Girls generally prefer something 13-15" screen, i would avoid glossy finish as that leave fingerprints and very messy for lady
Browsing the web with a Asus EEE with Ion and playing flash games with the flash beta with GPU support does it pretty well, i get about 6hour battery average. Although somework is need to get that far.

FAggotry 3:
@Hero, if they have good hardware, explain those shitty battery and ridiculous crappy viewing angel display?
yo dawg, cheap =/= good product, but if you buy two of them, (like the ipad) then it comes good.
Just like those Acer LCD, buy shit load of them, second hand them for massive business profit.

Ok, I had no intention of him playing games. When I look for a laptop, the main thing I look for is a gfx card that can play 1080p videos. Basically anything with no Intel garbage display. I never said anything about gaming. As for my netbook, well thats what I had the money for, and it did me good for a year.

K, whatever. So it just depends on what they want to play. Don't tear my head off for giving the wrong examples.

Ion netbook or any netbook with 1080p decoder ( i forgot the name, but is only like $20 something) through the mini pciexpansion slot
@phox, i'm not tearing your head off, i'm simply being a faggot.

You can call me phox, my name has always been sitting just above my avatar for the last 18 months. If your sister isn't doing real games, she doesn't need any thing more powerful than integrated. Nearly any $600 laptop can pwn flash games. Take your pick, it doesn't really matter.
