Windows 7 is a great OS, but it's not without its flaws.
One gripe with Windows 7 is its search function, it sucks period!

Okay here is the scenario

You have a bunch of folder in a external HDD, and in it is a file you would like to use. In Windows 7, searching for that file will result in "cannot find that file" blah blah blah, but if you do the same search in XP or Vista, it finds it.

So how do you perform a advance search in Windows 7 such
as display results for hidden files and search non-index locations?

Well I usually search the external since I know the file is somewhere within it. They do have a search 4.0 for w7 don't they?

well.........it worked ok on XP. I usually search a specific area for what I want, since I don't want it searching for a life time anyway. But if the search is the worst problem, I am ok with it.

It also has a nifty search box in the upper right corner of a folder when you open it, correct? Not sure if it searches inside folders in that folder or not, though.

Yes.
Go to My Computer > External HDD.
Then on the top right, search for what ever you want and it will search sub folders that aren't indexed. It functions just like the Start > Search Bar.

I've tried that but I'm not satisfied with the search results since I've know there has to be more to it.

In XP and Vista both have the advance search options.

for vista you do is click win logo+F and click on advance search, from here you have tons of options to choose from including a check box that searches for hidden and non-index locations.

Is there something similar to that in Win7, if not is there a alternative program that does that?
