And processor recommendations?
I don't want any more than quad core, I already have 2GB of RAM but it's probably terrible.

(RAM module 1) 1GB, form factor: DIMM, type: DRAMOther (RAM module 2) 1GB, form factor: DIMM, type: DRAMOther

^S'what comes out when I use the script I have in mIRC.

Oh and probably a network adaptor (wireless card) too.

Going AMD, its good for gaming and shit is easily upgraded. Going intel means you probably need a new motherboard when changing to a different cpu type.

Choose AMD or Intel first.

I'm gonna go with AMD. My processor hasn't let me down as of yet.
(CPU 1) AMD Athlon™ 7750 Dual-Core Processor (1024KB L2 Cache, AM2) @ 2700MHz (200MHz FSB), 7% load

Well, DDR3, G.skill, corsair, ocz, all good brands of ram. The new Phenom II x6 Hexcore is coming soon. The motherboard will have to revolve around that. Its all about the bios support. Phenom II hex is a AM3 socket, but I am un sure if am2+ supports it. Also I heard XP does not support 6 cores either, but I would like some kind of backup on that. Unsure of the XP thing.

So if your pc is golden for now, I'd wait for the new Phenoms. The weakest core will have a 2.8ghz clock, and be under 200USD.

I'm on Windows 7 x84/36 and I refuse to pay 200USD for a fucking processor.

Then why bother? Getting a new mobo and new ram, your cpu would cause bottle necking. A good quad is still 150+.

I hope XP supports 6-core. It would suck if it didn't, I'm running windows XP Pro and I like it alot better than win7.

Well... if you're gonna be upgrading your mobo, CPU, RAM and your graphics card, you might as well just build a new rig.

What makes it superior? All the features it has that I have no use for? For the regular user, it's just a prettier version of XP.

It's faster, smoother, and makes better use of your hardware too. But I guess none of that would affect a normal user like yourself anyway, right?

@konr, well, if you're upgrading all of those things, you're additionally going to have to upgrade your PSU (because you have a prebuilt, right?), and by then you might as well just build the whole thing from scratch. Trust me, if you already know how to upgrade your computer, the only difference in this is screwing in the mobo and PSU, and if you have troubles with that...well...you shouldn't be even upgrading your computer in the first place. Especially since if you buy just 2GB more RAM, even if it is much faster and better than your current RAM, it'll just clock down to the lower RAM.

This, right here. It makes better use of the same amount of ram and runs just as smoothly. Smoother infact. But to upgrade your mobo and ram to their fullest, and not the cpu, its a waste completely.
