According to the web, the next gen Core i7 processors will be running on a quad channel memory and currently Intel has began giving out samples of its next "Tock" called Sandy Bridge

Sandy Bridge brings is build on 32nm process and it will include Intel AVX and AES-NI

Rumor has it both new cpus will use a new socket
i7 socket 15xx
Sandy Bridge LGA 1155

Retarded. The i7 processors are overkill, intel has reached the point of diminishing return with their processors, amd with graphics. Both companies should work on making their current stuff cheaper, not make more and more new more expensive stuff, the full potential of which could never be reached.

You're half right. They definitely haven't reached the point of diminishing return. I'm sorry, but it really will be a long time until that has happened.

Also just for me its kind of annoying, intel goes "hey look at this I7 processors you need a new socket" then they go "Hey here is a better I7 new socket too!" sick of getting new motherboards... im still on 775 lol.

Go AMD then. The new phenom HEX cores are still AM3 socket. They will work on AM2+ that get a bios update. ASUS is already preping with a new bios. If gigabyte doesn't come through for me though, I will have to change mobo. May as well switch to ddr3 also.

Well, hopefully they'll lower their prices on the i5 to $160 by August, and have their i7s drop to current i5 prices, and have their new i7s take the top tier CPU crown.

Microcenter, FRY's your local i5 for $100-150, or i7 for $200

1156 will start to become really standard, they'll probably keep it 100% relevant for a while.

AVX looks pretty neat but i want fused multiply add already

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiply-accumulate
god yes delicious code simplification

and more CPU power right now is definitely a GOOD THING. bring on more threads if anything. some games will already happily nom on an i7.

Standard for poorfags.
Expensive mobo, picky ram, dead upgrade, lack of 3ways multi GPU set up, still dual channel
and soon to be out-performed by two years old socket and a processor optimized to hex core
