I just installed TinyXP on my 5-6 year old computer, and now the sound works. It hasn't worked for about 1-2 years. Any idea why it now works?

Possible the drivers are found by Windows update.
My scanner didn't work with Vista (back in 2007) until a few weeks later when Vista update found the driver for it.
