I really want to make myself a decent sig but i have no clue where to start. I know there are tuts but for now i would like to know what program to use and if i need any specialist things such as a tablet.

Learn some Photoshop skills, and get GIMP & You can use paint for some decent editing.

You can also try out Paint.net and Photoshop.

Well here is my first attempt. I know its incredibly basic but i'm reasonably happy with the outcome.
