My laptop only has 68 MB if video ram, and my desktop is really bad. I've got an HP Pavilion dv6000, can you even upgrade the video card on it, and if you can, is it worth it? Or should I just convince my parents to buy a new desktop? I don't need anything too good, I just want to be able to run games like TF2 which just need a 128 MB video card. I ran a system requirements lab check on my laptop, and the only problem for the minimum to run TF2 is the video card.

Buy a new laptop or desktop. Just depends what are plan to do. Laptops can be great for gaming if you have a 2.2 video ram like me.

It really depends on the laptop. You need to research it. Chances are you cannot change it though.

ITT: people comparing laptop gpu with memory.
Source gaems are more CPU intensive than GPU, and upgrading gpu on a laptop is almost stupid as buying a 4670 for AGP.
Hey faggot, 2.2 vram dedicated? pic or gtfo.

Desktop, I'd say. And build it yourself (if you can, or know someone who will do so for you for either free or cheap). You'll save money this way besides buying it pre-built, as well as get more power for your money.

I don't know anyone who could do it, and I don't know much about computer parts , so I'll have to buy a pre-built one.

I don't get where people get the assumption that laptops are for gaming. Laptops are SHIT at gaming unless you buy an incredibly and ridiculously overpriced beast of a laptop, other wise they are SHIT. And if you're wondering why they are shit, it's because a laptop needs the same parts as a desktop but need to be almost 5x smaller. Smaller parts = cost more to produce. So an average laptop is going to have SHIT parts. Don't bother replacing the laptop's video card even though it's highly unlikely that you can.

Certain notebooks graphic can be upgraded and even if you can, finding the parts is difficult.

Their called MXM modules and comes in 3 types I, II and III.

Desktops arent hard to build. For one thing, alot of the plugs are multiple sizes and not too many are the same. Also alot of Mobos have little titles on some plugs. Even my dads jack old desktop has the front usb connectors and such marked.

Well, you can have fun telling that to someone who's never done it before, then explain to them for the next 10 hours how to do it.

Ugh. Well, thats how I learned to put a pc together. I ripped a prebuilt one apart. IMHO, the hardest thing I found to do on building a pc, is to connect them little plugs that control LED lights and the power button on the case. It can be really annoying getting them connected and or in the right spots when you have giant hands.

That's how I learned as well, then took it further and built ones that I didn't see pre-built in school. Building one back up after you take it apart is easy, you have some sort of knowledge of where something goes even if you don't know what it is. Building one from scratch with no prior knowledge requires either a manual or someone there to help so you don't don't trash the equipment.
