Well I am building my dad a new pc. He doesnt need much, but something decent. At this point anything will be an upgrade from his crappy pc.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5205425&CatId=2405

Its a barebone kit. All it would need is a better psu for him. Any suggestions? Can this be done better? Again he does not require much.

His current specs are:
Pentium 4 3.2ghz/Hyperthread
ddr1 1gb 333hz
dual 80GB HDD
Geforce 7300LE
windows xp

The damn thing is just getting so slow, and seemingly slower by the day. He likes intel and I really doubt he needs anything more than a dual core. Will this work for him? Seems like a decent deal to me. He only needs 2gb ram, and he doesn't need to SLI or anything special. He can probably go with the onboard chipset for a while too.

Can anyone top this?

I never said it wasn't. I only said his current specs consist of 2 80gb HDDs. The psu looks ok but if I were to put his old 7300LE in will it hold? His old pc has a 400w psu. My mother has the bright idea of giving my sisters that pc but i dont think it would last much longer. Its only 4 or 5 years old but the parts are more like 6 or 7 years old. They may have been new but they are still old.

As for the shit set, its a intel x4500, but that might not be too bad for him considering he only plays facebook games. The x4500 isn't supposed to be that horrible. Its not the HD one, so it cannot run 1080p video, but it may run 720p. I couldn't find anything saying the max it could run.

Yea its not going to need the whole 300w, but I'm going to use his old psu anyway.

I just wanted to make sure this deal was pretty good. It sounded amazing to me, and its not like he could need more than 4gb. He was like, "I WANT 4 FUCKING GB". It was funny.

If the most he wants to use it for is Facebook games then 2gb is more then enough chances are if he defragged his computer and ran ccleaner his computer should run fine because one of my ancient computer can run facebook games fine and it is more the 7-8 years old. But that isn't on topic.

Anyways yeah 400w is good enough for it. and you shouldn't have any problems really.

His current specs are fine for his purposes, much better than my dad's computer and his runs fine as long as I do some maintenance every once in a while (mainly just running through things in tune up utilities. Just run a defrag and uninstall programs on his computer for him. If the windows rot has progressed enough, save his stuff to an ext hdd and reformat.

He wants 4gb, he wants it bad, and if he is willing to pay for it, he can have it. He is 41 yrs old, I think he should get what he wants lol. But he did say he would like to eventually play something real. I doubt he will go play something like MW2. I know he wont play crysis or anything heavy of the sorts. I think this will do him nicely.

buy 2x2gb of ram for it so you have 4gb of ram, a 9600gt (thats the ion) and a good cpu.

NVIDIA Ion is based around the slow 9400. That added on top of a meh Intel Atom single core (dual core would've been preferred), lackluster HDD and RAM, and an outdated OS makes this not that awesome of a deal.

You're better off building a system from scratch if you intend to improve performance IMO. There's not a lot that you can salvage and you'll still have an extra system laying around for use as a home server or something. For an OEM system, you can get this Compaq rig, although it's priced closer to $400 total. With a bit more, you can get this Acer Aspire system which seems to be priced well for the performance.
